The color blue surrounded us as a bird soared high in the blue sky and the mountains took the shape of an odd sea of rippling blue waves.
Just as the sun went over the blue horizon, we reached the summit where the most brilliant light threw color into the sky.
We set off for a sunset at one vista before hiking in the moonlight to another where we would watch a sunrise the following morning . . . but nature had other plans . . . other plans as in tornado watch right where we were . . .
And this is Richmond, our Richmond — a big little city (as residents say), one that boasts of its river so much the area is nicknamed “The River City.” Here’s more on our walk along the floodwall . . .
This hike feel short, too quick — like the setting sun, which burst in color then sank into the water.
Our boots were splattered with thick clay and brown mud, and it made me realize we don’t have to travel to the mountains for hikes. Some days, it’s okay to take a different path because there is beauty everywhere. You just have to look.
Once we reached the top and jumped state lines, we stood together in the opening among trees where blue sky burst forth to our vista, which was worth it, which was incredible.
